Check your symmetry

Next time you ride in a group have a look at the hips of the rider in front of you. It is quite likely that he/she will not be sitting centred and squarely on the saddle. His/her bottom will be dropped to one side. Tell them this and they won’t believe you. Neither will you when they tell you, because you do feel perfectly symmetrical!

You can chase your own clues if you don’t have anyone to check:

• Is one of your legs closer or touching the top tube while pedalling? • Look down on your seat post. Is one thigh closer to the seat post? • Check your saddle and shorts for wear. Have they worn out symmetrically?

Observing this will put you ahead of your game. You have caught the culprit to your future injuries. Next is to find the reasons and solve the problem.
